Strengthening participatory democracy at European Union level: european citizens’ initiative

Summary/Abstract: The present article examines briefly, the significance of European citizens' initiative which add a new dimension to European democracy and more rights relating to citizenship of the Union. The new procedure affords one million citizens from a number of Member States to have the possibility to call on the Commission to bring forward an initiative of interest to them in an area of European Union competence.
