Summary/Abstract: This study analyses the ‘pilot judgment procedure’ developed by the European Court of Human Rights - and identifies the principal elements and characteristics of the procedure, its application in key cases and the principles applied by the Court when delivering pilot judgments. The importance of ‘pilot judgment procedure’ is to solve the problem of high numbers of similar applications coming before the Court. A particular focus of the work is the pilot judgment Maria Atanasiu and Others v. Romania in which the Court adjourns the cases concerning properties nationalised during the communist era in Romania pending general measures at national level.
