Summary/Abstract: Unfortunately, due to the difficult circumstances in which he found himself as a politically unsuitable person most of what Nikolai Timchenko (1934–2004), the forgotten literary critic and historian, essayist and philosophical writer, published or left in manuscripts about writers whose works he dealt with, has remained marginalised and little known. The resistance he provided through his written word has led Timchenko to, most likely, be one of the most studious interpreters and chroniclers of postwar Serbian literary flows. Addressing the “case” of Dobrica Ćosić, he has left a series of testimonies both about Ćosić’s work and engagement and about flows and turmoil of the time marked by ideology and literary circumstances arising from such reality. The image of the writer can be discerned from Timchenko’s testimonies, but also the contours of his personality – they are both literary and documents about his character. Timchenko’s own creative drama can also be noticed in his critical reflections about Ćosić.
