Summary/Abstract: László Ravasz perceives well the aesthetic possibilities in preaching, yet he is afraid to become entirely involved in the autonomous world of language. His opinion is understandable due to the fact that he had lived and worked before the aesthetic paradigm came to the forefront in hermeneutics, according to which the world of language creates and shapes reality. In Ravasz’ time the effort to distinguish the text from the reality beyond it was still dominant, and the theological thinking which came to emphasise the role of the text of Scripture in our encounter with God was present only in a lesser degree.
