Summary/Abstract: The canon was a musical instrument, later called a monochord and by its simple construction – a string, stretched over an acoustic box. Its sounding harmonic capabilities were probably discovered, examined and transmitted in different musical and scientific fields. This article’s main objective, however, is the canon as musical form, and technique of interaction between voices, that had been at the core of European music construction, from Gothic time, to the musical heights of the 20th century. The arising question is, whether these so complicated and high forms could cultivate a particular kind of thinking, transmitting creative energy, engaging art from different époques.
