Summary/Abstract: This sociosophic and ethnosociological study focuses on the dramatic conflict between Christianity and the ethos of ancient Lithuanians. On the basis of theories dealing with social organization, social and cultural anthropology, semiotics and hermeneutics as well as the retrospective reconstructional method, the author aims to reveal the reasons of this long-lasting conflict and dwells upon the sources of Christian ideology and behaviour which are closely linked up with the urbanized Israelite culture. The ancient Lithuanian religion and mode of life, based on cosmographic world outlook as well as resistance to Christianity, are evaluated from the innovative point of view. The author also presents his own, maybe in a way subjective, insights into the above mentioned problems. These insights are based on the present-day identity of the Lithuanian nation, its integrity and its contribution to the common European home.
