Summary/Abstract: This study emphasizes the need to ensure the oil and gas pipelines security, as they face numerous risks and threats emanating from rebel groups, terrorists and other insurgents. More and more frequently, ethnic separatists and islamist insurgents, as well as political extremists chose to target energetic assets in order to coerce the governments to change their behaviour, and to get publicity worldwide. Only a close cooperation among information services and military bodies of the threatened countries could allow a diminution of these kind of attacks, while keeping at a low level the tendency to see a „privatisation” of the pipelines’s defense forces which benefits warlords and private energy corporations.
