Summary/Abstract: Slovenian linguist Franc Miklošič was born on November 20th 1813, in Radoneščak, Slovenia, and died on March 7th 1891 in Vienna, Austria. He finished studying philosophy in Graz and also graduated law from the University of Vienna, where he obtained his Ph.D. in 1840. Jernej Kopitar, who was a censor for Slovenian books in Vienna, helped Miklošič to gain employment in the National Library in Vienna where Miklošič, under strong influence from J. Kopitar, devoted himself to the study of philology. He is the author of the famous book, The Comparative Grammar of Slavic Languages. Miklošič also excelled in Balkan research, research of the history, the language and culture of the Balkan peoples. For the entire period of his work, Miklošič was directly and continually analyzing Albanian language. His scientific works from this field are: -Die slavichen Elemente im albanichen, -Die romanichen Elemente im albanichen -The forms of addapted Verbs of Albanian and other languages. In one of his systematic reviews of lexicon of Albanian language, based on material mainly gathered abroad, with only a small part gathered in Albania, Miklošič has found 319 words and terms of a Slavic origin. Balkanology - the totality of studies about the history, the language and culture of people of the Balkans, is a merit of Slovenian scientists Janez Kopitar and Franc Miklošič. The former was mainly searching for mutual inter-balcanic language relations, whilw the latter - Miklošič started a division of the language fund from ethimological standpoint.
