Summary/Abstract: „Merindar” is the folk terminology used for a special piece of cloth that wraps and preserves the cold food. „Merinde” is the folk term used for cold food that is taken by someone who goes to work on the field. The term has origin in Latin „merenda”. These „merindare” ”were” selected from ASTRA Museum collections with the purpose to emphasize the special characteristics of these traditional textiles such as: techniques, materials, chromatics, ornaments, etc. The investigations made by ethnographers confirmed that these traditional textiles are more than simple household items they have artistic value too. The artistic values reflect the local, zonal and identity specific features. The „merindar” a simple household textile is appreciated as an asset of the national folk culture.
