Summary/Abstract: The author of the article addresses the issue of Russianliterature development in Bessarabia. First of all, she offersthe periodization of the 200-year Russian literature in Moldova (XIX–XXI centuries). Russian literature developmentis proposed to be divided into 5 stages. Such a divisionreflects the consequent change of 4 cultural and politicalparadigms: the Russian Empire – the Royal Romania – theSoviet Union – the Republic of Moldova, drawing attentionto the fact that Russian literature has always been a reflection of the poly-ethnical Moldova development. It passedthe way from the origins of realism – through the fall ofhuge layers of culture in the years of cataclysms – to socialist realism – and further – to postmodernism. The authorpoints out the continuity of the literary process formationin Bessarabia. In the article, she emphasizes the period of1880s–1900s in the Russian prose of Bessarabia development and distinguishes its following characteristics: a closerelationship with the local periodical press (literary processwas formed on newspapers pages by local writers), the useof ethnographic realities, reference to topics and plots ofMoldovan folklore, the active use of popular expressionsand Moldavianisms. The author does not characterize theprose of this chronological fragment as a separate literarydirection, but considers it as a new and important step inthe development of Russian literature, whose main peculiarity is the development of ethno-regional topic.
