Summary/Abstract: English is by nature a rhythmic language. The correct use of rhythmic patterns is conditioned by the components that are most difficult to acquire for a foreign learner of English. The rhythm of English language very much corresponds to the rhythm of music. Jazz is one of music styles which help acquiring the rhythm of natural English. Jazz chanting is a rhythmic presentation of a natural language which has been developed into an ELT technique by Carolyn Graham. The article provides some theoretical insights into the correlation between language and music in terms of rhythm manifestation and elaborates on Jazz chanting as a relevant technique for teaching English rhythm.
