Summary/Abstract: The article aims at the comparison of language and music by searching in music for possible equivalents for prosodic features of language. Language and music are viewed as two sound structures, the main units of which (phoneme and note respectively) can be correlated. Intonation and speech melody are compared to intonation and melody in music. The universality of rhythm is highlighted both in language and in music; it plays a crucial role and shares rhythmic pulsation which involves stronger and weaker groups of sounds. As there are quite a few equivalents between the prosodic features of language and music, it is possible to find common pedagogical implications of language and music, i.e. with the help of music and singing to teach pronunciation and especially prosodic features of a foreign language.
