Summary/Abstract: Social teaching of the Church points to the deeper dimension of politics which might well be called evangelical. This becomes clear when we keep in mind that in the Church’s modern teaching politics is equivalent to the service for man targeted at common weal. If looked at in this perspective, the political commitment is a Christian obligation as part of service for the man. In this involvement in political life we cannot disregard the voice of faith and especially the ethical imperatives it carries. As Pope Benedict XVI has stated, the purpose of politics should be just and lawful order in the state.
