Summary/Abstract: The text presents some novels of the widely discussed prose-writer Miloš Urban with a different interpretation, sometimes even contrary to what the Czech literary critique offers. The paper actually stands as a polemic against the notorious opinion of Pavel Janousek, according to whom the novels Sedmikostelí and Hastrman are utopian, built entirely upon ideologically determined base. Moreover, according to Janousek Urban aims at the return of ideology in Czech literature. On the contrary, the vision presented here, interprets both novels as a dissection of the phenomenon “ideology” and of the mechanism of the conceiving, distributing and the functioning of the ideological constructions. The novels are read as anti-utopias and as a warning for the danger, posed by contemporary religious fundamentalism and fanaticism. Thus the paper demonstrates once again the truthfulness of the thesis of the infinite interpretations and the potential of the fiction texts.
