The Simultaneous Translation or Surtitling – Two Efficient Methods of Increasing the Visibility of the Minorities΄ Theatres

Summary/Abstract: Timisoara has always been considered a multicultural and multilinguistic city, although its status has been oficially recognized only when it gained the title of future European Capital of Culture 2021. The co-existence of various minorities in Banat, among them the German ethnics, has led throughout history to a cultural and economical development of the region, therefore also to its capital, Timisoara. This is why there has been always a certain impression of Western, occidental air floating over the city, which could have been a reason of envy for the other Romanian regions.Until December 1989, when the Romanian revolution took place, there was no need for interlingual rendition of theatre performances or other cultural events belonging to the minorities living in Romania. After the 90`s, it became a must-do, not only because most of the minorities left the country, but also due to the awareness that all the social, linguistic and cultural traditions should be transmitted further to the younger generations, in order to spread them and maintain them alive.
