Summary/Abstract: In East Prussia 31 dioceses incurred damage during World War I. Within Regierungsbezirk Gumbinnen 80 parishes suffered as a result of military actions, and in 56 of these communities substantial damage and losses were noted. The value of the damaged property in this area was 1,546,997 marks. Seven churches and eight parish houses were irretrievably destroyed (situation in November 1917). 64 churches and 72 parish houses, as well as 51 utility buildings which belonged to the parish houses, were damaged. The estimated value of the compensation from the state for the losses of real assets amounted to 836,425 marks.
