Summary/Abstract: The expert witnesses are appointed for the preparation of expertises in criminal, civil and administrative-criminal proceedings in Bulgaria. Their participation in the criminal proceedings is regulated mainly by the provisions of the Criminal Procedure Code and the Judiciary Act. The expertise should be appionted to an expert witnesses when certain facts in the criminal case need to be clarified with special knowledge in the field of science, art or technology.The author points out the authorities competent to appoint expertise with the relevant procedural acts; rights, obligations and grounds for judicial disqualification (recusal) of the expert witnesses.
