Summary/Abstract: This article discusses linguistic approaches from de Saussure trough Chomsky to cartographic approach by Rizzi and Cinque. According to the proponents of transformational-generative grammar, linguistics is understood as a part of the psychology and is oriented towards the mental. The article focuses on the evolution of transformational-generative grammar. Furthermore the principles of one of the most recent theories, namely the cartographic approach were presented, which, in comparison to Chomsky’s Minimalist Program, postulates an extended structure of the functional categories and consequently assumes more complex and universally valid propagated syntactic hierarchies. The CFC in cartography has become more complex and this new approach proposes a project of functional projections. The author presents the evolution of transformational-generative grammar. The study ends with a summary of principles of one of the last theories, the cartographic approach.
