Summary/Abstract: The objective of this paper is to explore the issue of the word order preferred by Polish learners of German in sentence comprehension. The paper discusses the question whether learners follow the rules of German sentence structure or whether they develop their individual pattern of word-order preferences. Moreover, the paper attempts to analyse whether the preferences of the learners of German in respect of arguments’ order depend on the structural position of the nominal phrase, which potentially could be the subject of the sentence, and whether the preferences can indicate various stages of sentence word-order acquisition.
