Summary/Abstract: The attitude towards the disabled has been changing throughout the years — from total hostility to relative acceptance. Inclusion is another stage of the changes in the treatment of the disabled by the healthy, both psychological and physical. Inclusive classes, and even entire schools, have become an alternative for special schools. When it comes to creating environments where the disabled children would feel like home. “There are no ‘cripples’, there are human beings” — these words of Professor Maria Grzegorzewska, one of the founders of the idea of inclusion have become, or should become, the motivation for all people working with the disabled. They encourage us to look for similarities — not for differences, things that bring people together, not the ones that put them apart. There is no ideal person in the world, each of us lives with a certain set of deficits. For children regarded as disabled, the deficits are greater. I think and I would like to highlight that inclusive education is a model of education that is beneficial for all children, also for the ones regarded as healthy. By everyday contact with disabled peers, they have an opportunity to develop positive behaviour with respect to another person, they learn tolerance, patience and understanding. I am convinced that, just as liquidating all special schools is a utopia, systematic development of inclusive education is a necessary condition for correct development and for the formation of socially desirable attitudes, whose lack is deeply felt nowadays.
