Summary/Abstract: Innovation implies introducing significant changes to products, processes and ways of organizing work activities. Hence, the crucial issue is finding an answer to the question to what extent family businesses in the southern region of Sonora implement innovations. The purpose of the article is to identify significant differences in the means of perceptions of certain groups surveyed such as: gender, number of workers, level of schooling, company turnover and years of incorporation. The subject of research were small family businesses in Obregón, Sonora Mexico, and a research sample included 166 companies. The authors applied the instrument of Arceo and Rueda [2010], Oslo Manual [2005], Ramis [2015] and Freire [2013]. The results showed that there was no significant difference in the perception of the types of innovation in the groups of number of workers, years of constitution and gender, however, in some cases, there was a meaningful difference in the groups of level of schooling and turnover. The conclusion thus arises that the groups may or may not have differences in terms of the perception of various types of innovation, but for all of them innovation is a culture that they must adopt in order to continue and develop in a market that is becoming increasingly competitive every day.
