Summary/Abstract: In the research on internationalization of companies, there are several theories explaining entrance to foreign markets; the most frequently quoted ones are stage theory and the concept of early or rapid internationalization. The main axis differentiating these two approaches is the explanation of foreign entry time within the development of the company. This paper undertakes discussion of and research on these approaches to internationalization. Two aims of the paper are formulated. The first is of a methodological nature, and the research question is about possibilities and constraints of using the virtual simulation of running a company as an experimental research method and as a research tool in the field of internationalization. The second aim of the paper is of a research nature, and it is connected to the investigation of models of entry to foreign markets. As both stage models and rapid or early internationalization models are reflected in the strategies of virtual companies, however, the spectrum of companies’ foreign market activities might be wider. Besides these two main approaches, the research results indicate the balanced internationalization and cautious internationalization.
