Summary/Abstract: Energy infrastructure is one of the determinants of energy security in modern states. This article addresses the issues of the natural gas sector and new infrastructure investments in the Baltic Sea Region. The text contrasts the theory of the process of European integration (the issues of solidarity and loyalty) with practice resulting from the pragmatic approach of EU member states to energy security issues. Taking the perspective of political science allowed a comprehensive analysis of the political consequences of the gas pipelines projects (Nord Stream I, Nord Stream II and Baltic Pipe) in Central and Eastern Europe. The article presents the play of interests surrounding these gas projects and points out that they are primarily determined by the particular interests of states (and companies) involved in the implementation of these projects.
