Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the ambitions of Slovakia’s 2018/19 Presidency of the Visegrad Group and provides the reader with some reflections on the presidency agenda. It also identifies the main reasons for Slovakia’s interest in Visegrad cooperation and elaborates on different perceptions of the Visegrad Group in the V4 countries. According to the author, the Presidency Program shows continuity in the main areas of cooperation, while avoiding articulating issues on which the interests/positions of the V4 countries differ. It is consistent with the “a la carte” nature of Visegrad cooperation and reflects differences in the structural characteristics of the V4 countries. It can be concluded that to a large extent the Presidency copies Slovakia’s need to maintain a strategic balance between its natural interest in developing Visegrad cooperation on the one hand and its pro-active approach to deepening EU integration on the other.
