Summary/Abstract: This year marks 300 years since six noble souls were martyred, all of them guided by their father and leader, Constantin Brâncoveanu. The Church will always keep alive the refusal of the six members of the Brâncoveanu family when asked by the Turkish sultan to abjure the Orthodox faith. Even if Romanian history is sometimes erroneous or kept hidden, in this case, the reign of Constantin Brâncoveanu cannot be kept hidden because his role in arts and culture was extremely important and definitive, not to mention the example of his faith which led to his being honoured among the saints. Even if sometimes he is referred to as an extremely astute leader from a political point of view, this must be understood in the historical context in which he reigned. One must not forget that he had to use his diplomacy, caught between two great powers: the Ottoman Empire and the Habsburg Empire. From a cultural and artistic point of view, Constantin Brâncoveanu was personally involved in creating a specific Romanian tradition. The times were extremely troubled, and in order to set an authentic Romanian cultural line, which could clearly attest the intactness of a faithful and beauty loving people, the ruler left a deep and undisputable mark in architecture, painting and music.
