Summary/Abstract: Elysian Fields. A Book of Memory by Vasilij Yanovsky The article analyses the problem of a cultural identity in the situation of culture collision. Vasilij Yanovsky, representative of the first wave emigration from Soviet Russia to France, in his memories described many cultural differences between French people and Russian emigrants. He showed some features characteristic or west culture in contrast to Russian culture: personal freedom, attitude to the work and others. As an emigrant Yanovsky was both witness to and participant in the creative life of the period between the wars. He paints a picture of those young emigrants who made up Russian Paris and in the same time tried to found out their own culture identity.
