Summary/Abstract: The paper analyzes Borislav Pekic’s collection of stories Novi Jerusalim (New Jerusalem), which is read not as a mere book of short stories, but as a series of connected texts, a ’’wreath of stories”. It creates a specific whole that resembles a novel, but is different from it. Signals of that bigger structure are found on various levels. Because of network of leitmotifs, Pekic’s book becomes a European ’ gothic chronicle”, a universal story of decay. It gives a critique of science and its method based on logical thinking, and also an implicit critique of literature itself.
