Summary/Abstract: Serbian 19th century gave a few great comedian artisans, like Jovan Sterija Popovic, Kosta Trifkovic and Branislav Nušic, and among narrators there were Simo Mata- vulj, Stevan Sremac and Radoje Domanovic. The essay has been dedicated through laugh characters by Jovan Sterija Popovic which made him the main and the first Serbian comedian narrator. Comedian laughter by Jovan Sterija Popovic (1806—1856), has been considered through analysis “theatrical mirth” (Laza i paralaza, Tvrdica, Pokondirena tikva, Zla zena, Dzandrljiv muz, Ženidba i udadba, Beograd nekad i sad, Simpatija i antipatija, Rodoljupci) and “small stage” (Pomirenje, Prevara za prevaru, Volšebni magarac, Sudbina jednog razuma). By the work it has been point to particular thematically texture, types of compositions, comical languages instruments, comical situations, comical types of heroes and dominance ways of laughter. Among these, there were definitions and identify characters by Sterija’s comedian lauger, which span was from comedian view of problems and characters, among theatrical society defections in that time. The conclusion has been expressed by article value of texts and Sterija’s role in progressing comedian way in Serbian literature by 19th century.
