Summary/Abstract: The lexical and grammar classes develop typical stylistic values according to the semantic content and to the grammar status of each of them, these values are mainly highlighted by the spoken and literary registers. The verbal inflexion is very rich in Romanian and thus the semantic loading and the expressiveness of the verbs are very rich too, ranging from vitality to drama. On the temporal axis which is represented as an imaginary boundless continuous line, the present is placed between the past and the future. The semantic and stylistic deviations which the class of the verbs records are sometimes the result of the writer`s/ speaker`s subjective attitude, the latter takes into account his/her own temporal order and not the sequence of tenses, the reference tenses. The past, as reference tense, records a lot of temporal and aspectual meanings. If the speaker can use the present with a past meaning, some past tenses (the “imperfect” of politeness, the children`s “imperfect”, the instantaneous “perfect compus”) can replace the present at their turn. Among the perfect tenses, the Romanian “imperfect” has supremacy as regards the semantic and stylistic values.
