Summary/Abstract: Known from many anthologies, the short poem by Dobriša Cesarić, Slap (Waterfall), compared to the 13 verses from the second book of Faust by Goethe, shows the similarity of the two approaches to the same symbolic motive. Viewed as a literary context of the poem Slap, Goethe’s approach to the motive of the rainbow outlined in the waterfall by the rays of sun, could be seen as Cesarić’s literary reminiscence. In both descriptions, the scene of the rainbow within the waterfall could represent the beauty life can bring. Cesarić’s emphasis on a single drop from the waterfall could suggest the idea of a personal contribution to the general course of events. And the proof that this is the contribution to poetry in particular lies in the poet’s signature under those lines.
