Summary/Abstract: In the development of textbooks for German language, the contents are combined to enrich the language base, mastering the grammatical structures, as well as introducing the culture and civilization of the German speaking area and intercultural contents.Textbooks are accompanied by new, contemporary and current concepts that have emerged in linguistic and scientific research in the fields of psychology of education, pedagogy, sociology, and other scientific disciplines. All these linguistic and scientific achievements of didactics and methodology of teaching foreign languages are also being combined in the creation of new textbooks. Textbooks should be in line with curricula and approved by the Pedagogical institute for teaching, but two or more textbooks in the same class are issued in parallel, so teachers have to decide which of them to apply for teaching. Starting from this, the textbooks should be analyzed and compared with each other, with curricula and programs as well as with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages: Learning, Teaching, Evaluation, which determines the level of knowledge of languages according to the language skills to be developed in the process learning. When analyzing the contents of a textbook and / or a tutorial, it should be guided by a list of criteria that is inevitable, it provides the basis for the analysis and identifies the questions to be answered when describing, analyzing and critique. Parts in textbooks subject to analysis are: didactic, linguistic and culture and civilization of the German speaking countries. In the example of four textbooks for the German language for the sixth grade of elementary school, it is presented a textbook analysis along with a List of Applied Criteria that German language teachers can assist in selecting teaching textbooks.
