Summary/Abstract: The article examines boxing in Poland through its political history and cultural representations. The author focuses on boxing films and novels created in 1950s and 1960s and in particular Julian Dziedzina’s fictional movie based on real boxer’s (Marian Kasprzyk’s) biography Bokser. The movie evidences the complex and complicated connections between boxing and sport politics as well as the social background of that time. The article shows that despite the propaganda many Polish boxing biographies of that period show that sport is able to resist a simple instrumental use.
