Summary/Abstract: The article contains reflections concerning consciousness in the light of the encyclical "Veritatis splendor" of John Paul II. It presents the problem of the essential functions of consciousness, that of the mutual relation between truth and freedom, and finally the short remark on the divergence of opinions on this subject in certain authors. In conclusion, the author indicates the necessity of forming consciousness.
