Selected research procedures in financial sciences and economic methodology

Summary/Abstract: The methodology and appropriate selection of research methods in economics, including the field of finance, play a tremendously important role. This is due to the fact that suitable procedures and correct research assumptions affect the quality of the entire research project. The purpose of this paper is to place the methodology of finance in a broader context of the methodology of economic sciences and to present basic research methods that can be used in the area of finance, on the basis of a review of literature on the subject. The author presents the fundamental concepts related to the methodology of finance. The most important historical works related to the evolution of the methodology of economic sciences are discussed. Among the methods available for financial sciences, the following are considered in detail: the praxeological methods, quantitative and qualitative methods, comparative methods, and experimental methods.
