Summary/Abstract: Pope Benedict XVI in his speech to the Roman Rota of 22/01/2011 talked about preparing for marriage. He pointed to his pastoral and legal nature. Benedict XVI said, that the immediate objective of this preparation was to promote the free celebration of a true marriage. This preparation the engaged couple are put in a position to discover the truth of a natural inclination and a capacity for committing themselves which they bear inscribed in their relational entity as man-woman. In this perspective particular care must be given to following through the preparation for marriage, whether it is remote preparation, proximate preparation or immediate preparation. Pope in his speech shows the importance of prematrimonial exam. Instead it is a unique pastoral opportunity — one to be made the most of with the full seriousness and attention that it requires. Judicial decisions must reflect the truth about the marriage. The preparation for marriage helps to discover this truth.
