Summary/Abstract: ISO 9000 standards, which constitute the basis to implement the quality management system in production and service organisations in various lines of business, are subject to systematic reviews and updates aiming at their better adaptation to the needs of enterprises using them. Requirements of the successive versions of the standard put greater and greater emphasis on achieving the objectives adopted by the company and the results of the system operation, especially within the area of cooperation with the customers.  The paper reviews the requirements of the latest version of the ISO 9001:2015 standard concerning the customer oriented approach and pointed out the differences in these requirements in comparison to the previous version of this standard from the year 2008. It also focuses on combining the customer oriented approach with risk-based thinking, on which the quality management system defined in ISO 9001:2015 standard is based.
