Summary/Abstract: The literary legacy left by St. Urszula Ledóchowska (1865–1939), the founder of the Congregation of Ursuline Sisters of the Agonizing Heart of Jesus, is rich in material in which one can discover a wide range of subjects for consideration. One of the issues of great importance found in the saint’s writings is the topic of human labour. This article presents the concept of work as described in mother Ledóchowska’s writings. The first part describes the foundation of her understanding of the concept of human work. Its paradigm is the attitude of Jesus Christ as a worker. The second section discusses the formational and sanctifying function of labour. Work recognized as an obligation dignifies humanity; it is also the opportunity to develop numerous virtues and a way to achieve sanctity. All saint Urszula’s teachings are Christ-centred and revaluate the concept of labour. Her message concerning work is universal. The testimony of Archbishop Marek Jędraszewski annexed to the article demonstrates how closely saint Urszula related work to her vows.
