Summary/Abstract: A teacher daily encounters the problems of how to present knowledge to his students in a simple and understandable way. Since one receives most information from one’s environment through the sense of sight, it is only natural that the most suitable way of presenting knowledge is by means of visual techniques. Every field of knowledge consists of basic notions and relations between these notions. Several notions connected by relations make a proposition which gives us the information and/or knowledge. If someone who knows well a certain field identifies the basic notions and essential relations, it is possible to create a meaningful whole that can be visualized by means of concept maps. We think that the knowledge well designed by concept maps is suitable for fast learning and synthesizing of the teaching material. Of course, concept maps are nothing new, but with the development of technology a need was felt for their use in the systems of e-learning. For something like this we need a tool by means of which we can bring a well-conceived map into a form suitable for a computer. Also, this paper presents a prototype of the program support CM Tutor that interactively teaches a student through concept maps adapting itself to his present level of knowledge.
