Summary/Abstract: In this article, the author presents his experiences teaching jazz theory to Oklahoma State University students, and synthesizes some of the pedagogical and theoretical methods used to explain the melodic and rhythmic concepts of jazz music. This article is based, for the most part, on the recordings of the great American bebop saxophonist, Charlie Parker, and includes the examples and exercises with analysis, which will help the student learn the basic methods of jazz improvisation.
