Summary/Abstract: The present study provides an insight into the utopian writing from the end of the nineteenth century and beginning to the twentieth, identifying the functions it fulfils and the processes through which it is able to solidify within the collective unconscious a new perspective regarding the functioning and governing rules of society or a new ideology. After identifying, classifying and defining the functions fulfilled by the literary construct emerging from utopia alongside SF, the research aims at organising the concepts of utopia, ideology and anti-utopia on an ascending ladder, thus marking the process through which utopia degenerates into ideology, as well as the anti-utopia’s ability to deconstruct utopia and ideology.
