Summary/Abstract: In order to study the characteristics of the lexicon used by poets from Vojvodina, we must precisely determine the theoretical concepts and the methods of work to be used in this paper. The study of the poetic lexicon contains one of the essential components of the poetic style, as well as poetic semantics (figurative meaning), poetic euphony and poetic syntax. The poetic language in different sociolects is quite diverse from the standard lexical norms and it follows a certain style. The use of the lexicon from different social milieus has the function to characterize a certain milieu. This milieu is often popular, or cultic. The analysis of the poetic language and lexicon used by poets from Vojvodina reveals the fact that the most numerous stylistic categories are those connected with a certain context. A very rich popular lexicon can be found in Ioan Flora’s poetry. The poetic lexicon used by Ioan Flora is not denotative, but very connotative. The poet combines the lexical categories analyzed my means of rich figurative associations, which are the product of lyric imaginations full of symbols and metaphors.
