Unity as an Essential Feature of Marital Love in the Light of Chosen Texts of Song of Songs

Summary/Abstract: The activity of people creating the final shape of sapiential tradition constitutes the last stage of redemption in the Old Testament. Their mature theological reflection includes earlier theological considerations concerning matrimony and tries to indicate the most valuable characteristic of marital unity, suitable for dignity of the individuals composing this relationship as well as distinguishing it from other human communities. This is most evident Song of Songs. In this book, as in no other sapiential work of the Old Testament, marital love – the most important element of marital unity – has been presented in the most comprehensive way. This constitutes a distinct proclamation of the personal aspect of matrimonial relationship. Such formulation of marital unity certainly does not exclude its other aspects (law, genealogy, accord), originating from the earlier stages of God`s Revelation, but supplements them with something, which had not been strongly stressed before.
