Summary/Abstract: The above study deals with a question of religiousness of the modern Brazilian society. The paper provides analysis of changes in religiousness of the Brazilian society. Shown were their ties to Catholicism and characterized were religious practices of Brazilians faced with changed religion. Furthermore, pointed was out the phenomenon of a growing number of the people that call themselves “people without religion” and analyzed was a society participating in the Afro-Brazilian religious practices. The data for the analysis was provided by Census of the year 2000 (Censo 2000); the study conducted by CERIS, study commissioned by National Bishops’ Conference of Brazil (CNBB), as well as by partial analyses of Census 2010. The last, for obvious reasons, provide only partial data, since full disclosure of Census 2010 will not be available until the second half of the year 2012.
