Summary/Abstract: The author makes known some features characteristic of the gypsy music in Bulgaria. The portrait of the gypsy musician is outlined. There is also a short survey of Bulgarian towns famous for their gypsy musicians – Kotel, Lyaskovets, Shumen, Sliven. Attention is drawn to the gypsy vocal and instrumental music, as well as to the present day social environment in Bulgaria, in which the gypsies create, develop and perform their music. Some of the most popular among the Bulgarian gypsies dances are enumerated. The study is based upon information collected through several inquiries with two top musicians of gypsy origin – HasanChinchiri and Kiril Lambov.
