Summary/Abstract: In the years 1867-1918 among the students of the St. Petersburg Theological Academy were seminarians and priests coming from the diocese of Sejny. Most of these went to college thanks to a government fund. Only some of the studied at the Academy at their own expense. However, not all graduated. Some returned earlier to the diocese without any title. In total 59 students came from the diocese. Most of them were of Lithuanian origin. They earned the following degrees: 1 – Doctor of Sacred Theology, 29 – the Masters degree, 4 – Candidate of Theology. Priests who returned to the diocese, held important posts in the Diocese: they worked in the consistory, the seminary in Sejny, they were teachers of religion in schools and the pastors of the larger parishes. Several priests from the Diocese of Sejny worked at the Academy, serving as professors or teachers. Analyzed were the sources concerning the functioning of the college in this period, that is: the first decades of its existence. This provided valuable information concerning the topics of theses written by students, but failed to give broader information about the later fate of the priests of Lithuanian origin. Such information could reveal a wider picture of the education of the graduates who later went to Lithuania. Difficult and limited access to archival materials collected at the Central State Archive of St. Petersburg resulted in a limited use of the material accumulated there.
