Summary/Abstract: In the north-western part of Tien-Shan there are known two open air sites (Kulbulak, Kazylalma) and one cave site (Selungur) that have yielded archaeological materials dated back to the Lower Palaeolithic. The authors describe the stone industries of the three sites and analyze the question of their cultural affinities. It is demonstrated that the lithic assemblages of Selungur should be placed among the so called pebble industries distinguished first of all by their relative technological simplicity. The same conclusion seems also possible as regards at least some assemblages of the other two sites, though in this case a number of reservations have to be made.
