Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problem of standardization of teaching Bulgarian as а second language. The new state regulations for teaching Bulgarian are criticized in terms of the used terminology and categorial apparatus. The different target groups of the Bulgarian training are considered, and existing problems are revealed. The use of incorrect terminology hides the similarities in the language acquisition by different target groups, leads to the use of a wrong teaching methodology. The Common European Framework of Reference for Languages in teaching Bulgarian is another issue that is being considered. The article focuses on the need to develop Reference level descriptions for Bulgarian which have not yet been formulated.
