Summary/Abstract: The role of mass-media is to represent reality symbolically. Through its functions of informing, expressing and interpreting from a critical point of view, the media influence the public, instructing and educating them at the same time. In the media discourse, explanation as a didactic discursive procedure is manifested at the level of the definition, the analogy, the repetition, or through the exemplifying and illustrating procedures, all of which generate didacticity.
