Summary/Abstract: We would like to submit an analysis of the discursive functioning and of the spiritual implications of some formal endings employed in the Orthodox Church in monastic environment in French language, starting from a corpus of three Orthodox works, one of which being written directly in French and the two others being translations. We will analyze the discursive manifestations of what we name monastic politeness through the study of formal endings used when Orthodox monks or believers address important spiritual fathers, as well as the ones that these last ones use when addressing the others or when humbly speaking about themselves. We will also study some lexical markers (the borrowings) used as polite formal endings that express, from a terminological point of view, some particularities of the spiritual traditions within the original countries of the protagonists, namely Greece and Romania.
