Summary/Abstract: This paper treats a very interesting, important and sensitive issue -- official use of language in internal domestic order of the states. Namely, one surely expects majority language to be in use, and this use is usually guaranteed through legislation. This reduces the issue of free use of languages to the issue of whether other languages may also be used. Although those can exceptionally be some other languages as well (e.g. foreign languages which are not at the same time mother tongues of any of the minorities in the said state) this usually amounts to languages of various ethnic, linguistic and other minorities. Within the introductory part author treats some preliminary issues, and especially examines the notion of state language or 'protected languages', points to the most important aspects of the free use of language and, in particular, to the problem of determining official use of language.
